The World Health Organisation (WHO) Executive Board has selected three candidates for the position of Director General. The three candidates will be presented to the World Health Assembly later in the year where one of them will be chosen as the new WHO DG.
The three nominees are:
- Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, nominated by the Government of Ethiopia;
- Dr. Davis Nabarro, nominated by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and
- Dr. Sania Nishtar, nominated by the Government of Pakistan
All Member States will choose among the 3 nominees by vote at the World Health Assembly in May 2017. The new Director-General will take office on 1 July 2017.
