• 59.22% candidates obtained minimum credits in 5 subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics
The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, Nigeria has announced the release of results for the May/June 2017 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, WASSCE.
Releasing the result in Lagos yesterday, the Head of National Office, Mr. Olu Adenipekun said out of 1, 559,162 that sat for the examination, a total of 923,486 representing 59.22%, obtained minimum of credits in five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics.
According to him, compared to the percentage of candidates in this category there is a slight improvement in this year’s WASSCE for school candidates in 2015 and 2016 which was 38.68% and 52.22%, respectively.
“Also a total of 1,243,772 representing 79.77% obtained credits and above in five subjects while 1,084,214 representing 69.54% obtained credits and above in six subjects.”
Adenipekun said out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination 1,471,151 representing 94.36% have their results fully processed and released, while 95,734 candidates representing 5.64% have few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination.
He however said a total of. 214,952 candidates representing 13.79% of the total candidature for the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.
“The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council in due course for consideration.”
According to the HNO, candidates who sat the examination will be able to check the details of their performance on the council’s result website www.waecdirect.org within the next few hours.
He disclosed that the result checker Pin and serial number are contained on the flip side of the candidates CIVAMPENS card issued to all candidates by WAEC and used by them during the conduct of the examination.
